Meeting Description:
The East African Interpreters and Translators Association, based in Nairobi, Kenya, is the main group for language professionals in the East African region. EAITA is pleased to announce that it will host its Second Africa International Translation Conference on 7th – 8th February 2020 in Arusha, Tanzania.

EAITA aims to assist the professional development of language professionals with learning and networking opportunities and to provide the opportunity to learn from, meet and network with major players with global stature in the translation and interpreting profession. The conference will bring together language professionals from across East Africa, Africa as a whole, Europe and beyond.

Call for Papers:

Submissions based on issues of relevance to language professionals, especially freelancers are requested. Issues such as:

  • Opportunities and challenges the profession faces;
  • Dealing with specific issues that have an impact on the work of freelancers and self-employed translators and interpreters,
  • General trends in the translation and interpreting professions
  • Collaboration with peers
  • The use of CAT tools;

Presentations, in English, will be 25 minutes long with 5 minutes for questions. Abstracts should be submitted to by 31st July 2019. Abstracts should be no more than 500 words long (excluding title, references and examples).

Please send in the abstract in WORD format as a file attachment. In the subject heading of the e-mail, please indicate: AITCO 2020 Abstract.

In the body of the e-mail, please include the following information:

  • Title of abstract
  • Area of language profession practice addressed by the presentation
  • Name(s) of presenter
  • Photograph of presenter
  • E-mail address of presenter

Entry to the conference is free for selected speakers, and speakers will be responsible for the costs of their transport to and from Tanzania and their accommodation there.
