Our History

An association that started over a cup of Tea

The history of EAITA began on 15th September 2015 at a very little known restaurant in Nairobi where a group of 10 passionate translators sat together to seek for ways to make the translation profession more professional. The founding members who sat and talked about establishing a translators’ association over a cup of tea are: Alfred Mtawali, Salome Nduku, Juma Sanna, Nicolas Nahimana, Nuhu Bakari, Sarah Wachilonga, Michael Odhiambo, Boniface Kyalo, Mstahifu Mabruki and Fredrick Otiato. After much deliberations, the name East Africa Interpreters and Translators Association (EAITA) was born. The registration process commenced and in June 2016, the association was duly registered by the government of Kenya.
