Meeting Description:

The East African Interpreters and Translators Association, based in Nairobi, Kenya, is the premier grouping for language professionals in the East African region. EAITA is pleased to announce that it will host its Third Africa International Translation Conference on 10th – 11th February 2023 in the Coastal city if Mombasa, Kenya.


The conference will bring together language professionals from around the globe. EAITA aims to assist the professional development of language professionals with the learning and networking opportunities this conference will provide and will also provide participants with the opportunity to learn from and meet major figures in the translation profession from across the world.


Call for Papers:

Submissions based on issues of relevance to language professionals, especially freelancers are requested.
Issues such as:

  • the use of CAT tools
  • how to recruit and work with clients remotely;
  • collaboration with peers;
  • the opportunities and challenges facing the profession;
  • dealing with the specific issues that impact upon the work of freelancers and self-employed persons,
  • general trends in the translation and interpreting professions, etc. are welcome.
  • The impact of COVID-19 on our profession
  • Continuous professional development


Guide for Presenters/Attendees

Presentations, in English, will be 25 minutes long with 5 minutes for questions.

Abstracts should be submitted to: by 30th November 2022. Abstracts should be no more than 500 words long (excluding title, references and examples). Please send in the abstract in WORD format as a file attachment. In the subject heading of the e-mail, please indicate: AITCO 2023 Abstract. In the body of the e-mail, please include the following information:


  • Title of abstract
  • Area of freelance translation practice addressed by the abstract
  • Name(s) of presenter(s)
  • E-mail address of presenter
